  1. Do I need any powers before I join the gekkonids?

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: There are no power requirements to join - though if you're not fully-powered yet by gekkonid standards you'll be expected to acquire the missing powers with significant priority over any other clan activity.

Mind you, if you're planning to join the Morningtide, you have to pass the initiation ritual - and if you're entirely sans powers, then that can easily become a tedious chore. That doesn't make them requirements, though, just highly recommended. Specifically, Thievery(3), Surprise and Celerity(3) will make your life much easier.

Note that there are powers you're expressly not allowed to have: Neutrality and BattleCloak. If you have Neutrality and want to join the Splinters of Dusk regardless, contact a clan leader, there might be stray tasks for you - but please don't get your hopes up, the chances of them getting dashed are really high.

  2. What do I need to do to join the Eventide?

    Short answer: Nothing.

    Long answer: No, seriously. Nothing.

  3. What do I need to do to join the Morningtide?

    Short answer: Burn, baby, burn!

Long answer: The Morningtide have an initiation ritual that each Splinter has to pass before they're legitimately part of the clan. It's a test of trust and conviction, both, and goes like this:

The applicant hands over their entire bank account to a Shard, who holds onto the money for the duration of the ritual. Following that, the applicant spends the time necessary to gather a specific amount of coins (determined on an individual basis by leadership) - they're free to take as long as they please with that, there's no time-limit.

Once the amount's been gathered, Morningtide leadership is to be informed where upon the tide is notified and each active Splinter will contact the initiate, strike them with the designated weapon (depending on the candidate's bloodpoint range), taking the weapons from their current inventory. The coins gathered are for a discount shopping at a later date, to reimburse the Splinters in question.

Congratulations! Once you've sat through that, you're accepted - unless, of course, your attitude throughout the whole thing was sub-par.

Note: Don't worry, your initial bank account is returned to you regardless of whether you finish, abort or fail.

  4. Are there any other rituals?

Short answer: Yes: You can optionally bind to a member of the other Tide.

Long answer: Shard-Splinter binding isn't required for anything, but great opportunity for two players to get together for some roleplay. It also really ties the <s>room</s> clan together. It's usually done between players that find themselves online simultaneously on a frequent basis.

The ritual itself has the Shard meet up with the Splinter and transfer 1 000 coins to them (750 coins for a discount run ritual, if you're brave). The moment the money's received, the Splinter's top priority becomes finding a magic shop and buying an Orchid, which they're to carry on them until it wilts. Once wilted (but not vanished!), they're to find their Shard and given them the Orchid.

How deep a meaning the binding has for you is what you make of it. Mictian is bound to Rice to a degree that has pact-like qualities. Some people extend their Shard-Splinter binding to be companion or sire bindings, to ease succouring and to generally further underline their affiliation with each other. Some people just do it to advance in Shard rank. Whatever your pick: Try to make sure your Shard/Splinter shares your viewpoint. And, more importantly: Have fun! Smile

  5. Do I have to be clanless before joining you?

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: The Splinters of Dusk aren't aversed to multi-clanning. There are some parts of gekkonid faith that are non-negotiable - most glaringly, if you're in our clan, we expect you not to hit anyone outside of contracts, period, which means that most other clans won't take you in under those circumstances. However, if you're a thief for another clan or your purpose in another clan otherwise doesn't clash with that main requirement, then you're more than welcome to join the Splinters of Dusk.

Equally, if you want to join another clan while in the Splinters of Dusk, you can do that, as long as the other clan is aware that you're bound by the detached-alignment vow.

Beyond that basic tenet, much is negotiable. Multi-clanned Splinters don't have to hit members of their own clan, for example. Shards can split their bank account up between the Splinters of Dusk and their other clan, rather than having to subscribe all of it to the Splinters of Dusk.

It is very important that you tell us about other clans you're in. You can do this on an OOC-only basis. We're known to go as far as to let in spies for roleplaying purposes (though obviously not to the point where we jeopardise our promise to the city not to divulge contractor information, but that goes without saying) - we, as players, just have to know where your affiliations lie.

If you're interesting in multi-clanning with the Splinters of Dusk, grab an Eclipsed and hash out the details with them.
